I found this morning an email in my junk folder and was about to delete it, when something (probably the title? "Re-Shirts l T-Shirts, die Geschichte machen") made me open it. Of course, it was all in German and as you understand I couldn't read a bit of it but, lucky me, there was a link and I clicked it. Turns out to be this Austrian site called Re-shirt, which tracks down the life of a t-shirt as it passes from one owner to another and travels the world! From their press release:

It all starts with a T-shirt that someone associates with a special memory: an important career step, an unforgettable football match, a demonstration in Guatemala, the feeling of an entire stage in their life. These shirts are collected, quality inspected, and put on display at www.re-shirt.net. When one of these shirts is purchased, it is given its very own orange Re-Shirt Label, a number is printed on it, and it begins a new registered life. Every future owner can now document the experiences they have with their Re-Shirt online and continue the story of this piece of clothing.

I love the idea of the passing memory through t-shirts. I've heard about similar sites that document the life of books, or scrapbooks, etc but I'd never heard of t-shirts. The t-shirts cost € 25.00 (~$34) which is not too cheap but not too expensive either and besides you're not buying just a t-shirt here, you're buying a memory (if you can actually buy one).
I've always believed that objects get energy from the people around them which grows with time and which they give back to us. Maybe that's why I chose to study archeology in the University. We're all attached to an object and I know that lots of the readers of this blog are strongly attached to a t-shirt! So, I'm digging my closet right now...

Demonstration in Guatemala City, code: ATA002001907

I bought this shirt at a demonstration in summer 1997 in Guatemala City, just months after the end of the 36 years´civil war. Together with a couple of thousand Indigenas we demonstrated against the amnesty the government had enacted for the death squards of the regime. The shirt shows the logo of the Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo (http://www.gam.org.gt) I was in contact at that time, and the question „Donde estan? (Where are they?) on the back of the shirt, referring to the 200.000 who were killed or had disappeared during the war.
