A couple of weeks ago, a reader of this blog, Tim, sent me a link to a friend's page to check out his designs and so I did. Common Genus is actually one man's show that's why you'll only find three designs. The man behind these shirts is Californian artist Jeffery Kubasak and the designs are actual copies of his artwork. Jeffery started hand-painting on shirts but in order to reach to a bigger audience he turned to screen printing. Nevertheless, if you still want a hand painted tee shoot him an email (the ones you'll buy through the site are screen printed). The cool thing about the hand-painted ones is that at first the graphic is pretty thick, but after a few washes it looks like a vintage painting on a shirt. The designs are truly cute and colorful; you cannot go wrong with big plain surfaces and thick outlines! I really liked these designs and from my chat with Jeff he sounds like a really cool guy who enjoys doing this.
